Spring is Here - i think its safe to say

Although we are still having very cold (-1) overnighters and frost, the wattles are singing of Spring and are looking magnificent - there were no yellow flowers at all last year so I am not sure what the trigger is. and today I saw a welcome swallow, my first fire tail and a fly in the studio ! (Who knew a fly can bring so much pleasure?)

the new plantings are looking good - hopefully they take off this Spring/summer. They are Leucospermum, tea tree, leucodendron, a mini pine, and 3 tasmanian pepper berries (1 male 2 female)

this little banksia in the turning circle with the tea tree is looking fabulous.

have you seen the short videos on our youtube channel? lots to explore there.

this playlist shows a variety of learning to live in the country having moved here a year ago. We live on 25 acres of a mix of bush, forest, cleared land/paddocks with a creek that runs through the whole property. We share with the wildlife and some protected species (wallabies, platypus, blackfish, turbo chooks, a resident tiger snake and a dairy cow in retirement).

birthday #getaway #anyexcuse to drive the Diva

I am late to post but here it is.  my birthday #getaway this year was a train ride after the road trip to Queenstown. #anyexcuse to drive the Diva. We had to leave very early to make the 9.30am deadline arriving in Queenstown on time, enough to grab a coffee. The road to Queenstown is extremely winding which, needless to say, the Diva handled beautifully and V was quite happy to be driven (notwithstanding he takes calls all the time - running his car hire business on the move).  He did drive a portion of the road to give me a break over the 3.5 hours it takes. We had fun and some nice food, sparkling orange juice and Tassie chocolates.  The weather was (Tasmania) damp, chilly, not uncomfortable with random sunshine. The train trip, of 34 kilometres, on The Wilderness West Coast Railway Tasmania  is very well setup taking us through 'rugged terrain and breathtaking scenery' whilst telling of its history and that of the area.  love that little TOOT at the end We h...

When Endangered is right in front of you

This beauty was found on my office bench one morning this week. So intact, so beautiful. A bit of googling established it is a Bogong Moth. My studio and office is a giant shed so i find critters around from time to time and watch a spider in her webs, around my window overlooking the paddock, catch and wrap flies. I n googling i discovered the Bogong Moth is endangered and recorded my sighting on a website dedicated to tracking these amazing creatures . They aim to support Bogong Moth research, and promote Moth Tracker. Common name: Bogong moth Aboriginal name: The name Bogong is apparently derived from the language of the Dhudhuroa Nation of North Eastern Victoria. Scientific name: Agrotis infusa Population: Declining Conservation status: Endangered  Bogong moths also  provide critical food  for the critically endangered Mountain pygmy possum, lizards, antechinus (broad-toothed rat) and spiders across the Snowy Mountain region....
